30th Anniversary Celebration
On Friday, October 16th, friends of San Francisco Performances gathered to celebrate its 30th Anniversary Season in the elegant Victor’s and Alexandra’s rooms atop the 32nd floor of the Westin St. Francis Hotel. The festive evening raised over $150,000 to support San Francisco Performances’ award-winning education programs. Special honorees for the evening were the Bernard Osher Foundation and the Alexander String Quartet, in recognition of the extraordinary contribution they have made to San Francisco Performances’ success.
Gala Co-chairs Victor Hymes and LaVerne Silverman welcomed guests and spoke about the importance of San Francisco Performances’ education programs. Later, Board Chair Fred Levin and Ruth Felt introduced Mary Bitterman, President of the Bernard Osher Foundation and Fred Lifsitz, second violinist of the Alexander String Quartet.
Entertainment for the evening began with a short performance by Skyline High School students Adam Green on flute and Aneesa Al-Musawwir on bass. Both students are former recipients of San Francisco Performances’ education programs and participated in workshops with Jazz Artists-in-Residence, vibraphonist Stefon Harris and vocalist Luciana Souza.
A spirited auction followed with guests bidding on items such as private concerts by Peter and Zoltán Katona and the Alexander String Quartet; a private dinner party prepared by the executive chef of Google, Jeff Freburg; and a night on the town at the Hotel Vitale.
The evening culminated with a performance by San Francisco Performances’ first Jazz Artist-in-Residence, violinist Regina Carter, accompanied by pianist Xavier Davis. Among the pieces played was a composition written by Ms. Carter titled, “How Ruth Felt.”

SAN franciso performances extends its thanks to the many corporate supporters who helped make the evening a success:
